- Robust, upright or pendant, stems irregularly distributed, never branching dichotomously or in whorls, 60 cm long, 0.8-1.5 cm diameter, cylindric, later more or less five-angled, dark green, stiff. Areoles close together, bristly, later naked, with a big red scale and a red ring. Flower lateral, 1.5-1.8 cm diameter, surrounded by wool, white, outer petals straw-yellow. Stamens and pistil straw-yellow. Fruit red or white with red hue, flattened globose, 0.7 cm long, 0.8-1 cm diameter. Seed shiny brown, 1.2 mm long, 0.8 mm broad.

- Peru: Junín; Bolivia: La Paz, Santa Cruz, Tarija; Argentina: Tucumán, Catamarca, Santiago del Estero, Salta, Jujuy, 600-2350 m. Flowering period end of dry season.
