- Branched bush, stems up to 20 cm long, mostly triangled, with strongly depressed edges, which are ±1 cm high and crenated. Areoles 1 cm apart. Spines 3.10, spreading or reflexed, somewhat flat and and twisted, up to 1,5 cm long. Flower purple-red, 2,5 cm long, with a clear receptacle. Ovarium 5 mm long, with very few scales or a bristly spine. Rest of the receptacle 12 mm long, with large scales with reflexed tip, which integrate in the petals. Upper petals petals shorter than the lowe. Stamens cream, anthers yellow. Style magenta, stigma greenish cream. Fruit up to 1 cm long, globose to short cylindric, weakly winged, areoles with little brown-yellow felt and sometimes one spine, up to 2 mm long. Seed up to 2 mm long, black.

- Southeast Peru: T: Sandía, Cuyocuyo (Puno). Grows fully exposed on rocks, 2000-3200 m. Only known from type locality.
