- Epiphytes with aerial roots. Stems slender, ribbed, twosided or three to six angled, but mostly four. Spines mostly very soft and bristly, to thin needlelike. Flowers nocturnal. Flower 3-10 cm long, short funnel form or bell shaped. Ovary with podaria, with bristly hairs and extrafloral honey glands 2 mm under the areoles. Inner petals lanceolate, obtuse or pointed. Style thin. Fruit 3 cm diameter, globose to oval, with podaria, pink to red, yellowish to greenish. Areoles naked or with hairs and thin spines. Pulpa white or red. Seed 1.5 mm, dull black.
