- Epiphytes, also terrestrial. Mostly pendulous, sometimes with aerial roots. Branching, members cylindrical, flattened or with three or more ribs. Areoles mostly glabrous, sometimes with hair and/or bristle thorns. Dayflowers with mostly small flowers. These are more or less white, rarely deeply coloured. Usually no clear receptaculum. Fruit round to elongated, not veined.

- South and Central America, Caribbean, Florida, South Mexico, also Africa, Mascarenes and Ceylon.
