- Stems up to 1 m long, 4-7 cm broad, weakly crenated. Flower 2.5-3.5 cm long. Ovary smooth or with some blunt edges, round, with some scales, purple. Receptacle 0.5-0.6 cm long. Inner petals light bluish lilac. Outer petals bluish lilac, without keel. Stamens short. Stigma white. Ovary without tubercles. Fruit smooth, 1 cm long, greenish white to red.

- Panama: mountains above Chepo (T), Colón, Darién, Panama; Costa Rica: Guanacaste, Puntarenas; Colombia: Antioquia, Bolívar, N. Chocó, Córdoba, Cundinamarca, Magdalena, Norte de Santander, Santander; Venezuela: (Apure, Aragua, Carabobo, Miranda, Zulia). In rainforest or deciduous forest.
