- Segments flat, 4-6 cm long, 1.5-3.5 cm broad, often strongly dentate. Areoles with bristles and little felt. Terminal areole long and narrow. Flower zygomorphous, 7 cm long, 4.5 cm diameter, magenta. Filaments white, pollen yellow. Stigmas purple-red. Ovary globose. Receptacle 4 cm long. Fruit obovoid, red. Seeds black.
- Brazil: Rio de Janeiro (Serra do Mar with Serra dos Orgãos). Epiphytic or terrestric, in mata Atlântica, 100 1500 m. Flowering period: May.
