- Upright to hanging, not profusely branching. Stems green, near areoles often with violet tinge, up to 50 cm long, up to 2 cm diameter. Stems 8.12 cm long. Ribs (3.)5, with sharp edges. Areoles round, with white felt. Spines 6.7, bristle-like, up to 5 mm long, yellowish. Flower up to 2,2 cm long, 1,5 cm diameter. Ovarium bluntly five-angled, brownish green, with white spines. Outer petals purple-red to pink. Inner petals cream-white. Fruit 1 cm diameter, globose, translucent, doorschijnend, with spines. Seed small, black.
- Bolivia: Cochabamba, Santa Cruz, Tarija; Argentina: Catamarca, Jujuy, Salta, Tucumán. Epiphytic and epilitic, 600-2500 m, in arid woods between yunga and chaco. Flowering in the southern spring and summer.
