- Stems 15-30 cm long, 5-10 cm broad, light dull green, with thickened midrib, edges shallowly crenated. Spines 1-3, dark brown, up to 6 mm long. Flower 6-7 cm long, 3.5 cm diameter. Outer petals thick, shiny, waxy, obtuse, pink tot pink white. Inner petals white. Filaments white. Style white, upper part pink. Ovary with some thick purple scales and short hairs. Fruit oblong, somewhat angles, scaled, red. Pulpa white. Seed 1.5 mm long, black.

- Costa Rica: Cerro Turriwares, near Orotina (T), Puntarenas, San José. In thick forests in Pacific lowland, 200-850 m.
