- Stout plants, 1 m and longer, older stems lignified, with grey bark. Juvenile with broad stems, later narrower and stiffer. Stems green, flat, 4-8 cm broad, base round. Flower ±28 cm long. Ovary small, with few scales, pale. Receptacle ±15 cm long, straight, green or yellow-green, somewhat angled, with some red-tipped scales. Middle of receptacle inside with dense hairs. Outer petals scaly, with red tips. Inner petals 8-9 cm long, narrow. Filaments white. Pistil orange. Fruit winered, 8 cm long, angled, slender. Seed 2,8x3 mm.
