- to 3 m long, stem mostly with rounded base. Stems thin, mostly to 5 cm broad, areoles widely apart. Flower 10-13 cm long, 7-9 cm diameter, scented. Ovary with some red scales. Receptacle 8 cm long, white to greenish white, with some red outwards bended scales. Outer petals narrow, yellowish green, the lower ones slightly red. Inner petals somewhat shorter, white. Filaments white, longer than the style. Lower part of style red or purple, upper part white. Fruit dark red, 2 cm long. Seed dull black.

- Costa Rica: Alajuela, Cartago, Limón (Rio Pacuare). to 850 m, in Atlantic forest.
