- Stems lanceolate, 5-6 cm broad, strongly crenated, base round, flat part ±35 cm long, dark or leaf-green. Spines 1-3, 1-2 mm long, brownish. Flower 12-14 cm long, 10-14 cm diameter, red. Receptacle slender, angled, grooved, green, with red scales, often with 1-2(-5) spines, up to 1,5 (5) mm long. Outer petals pointed, the inner ones more blunt. Stamens red. Stigma dark red. Fruit 4 cm long, 2-2,5 cm diameter, green to brown-red, scales up to 8 mm long, spines 0-1.
