- Upright or crawling. Stems 1.5 cm diameter, later 3 cm diameter. Ribs mostly 3(-4). Spines ±10, bristly, yellowish brown, 5(-8) mm long, the lower ones shorter. Flowers ±15 cm long, red, inside yellowish. Areoles with white or brown hairlike spines.

- Mexico: Chiapas, 1700-2500 m; Guatemala: Quezaltenango, Vulcan Agua (T); El Salvador: Cerro Montecristo; 2600-3800 m.
