- Basally branching, base round, 4-8 mm diameter, stems 20-30 cm long, 3-5 cm broad, crenate, bright green. Areoles 1-2.5 cm apart. Flower 6-7 cm long, red. Ovary up to 4 mm diameter, green, with scales of 1 mm long, 0.5 mm broad, pink, with some hairs. Receptacle 2,5 cm long, 3 mm diameter. Petals red, not widely opening. Stamens strongly protruding, red, anthers whitish. Style red, stigmas lighter. Fruit 1-1.5 cm diameter, red, with scales. Seed 1.25x0.75 mm, black-brown.
- Guatemala: Escuintla, Chimaltenango, Quetzaltenango and Santa Rosa, 1200-1600 m in cloud forest.
