- Stems flat, base round. Flat part 10 50 cm long, 5 cm broad, green to light green. Mostly without spines, sometimes 1 3 spines at the base, ±2 mm long, white. Flower 11 12 cm long, 5 cm diameter, funnelform, red. Ovary with white bristles. Ovary and receptacle with linear scales, purple-red, 1 cm long. Receptacle 6 7 cm long, 0,8 1 cm diameter. Lower part of receptacle with 1 5 spines, 1 5 mm long. Stamens green below, reddish or white above, anthers yellowish. Style red, stigma violet-red. Fruit 4 cm long, 3 cm diameter, green, scales up to 4 mm long, spines ±10. Seed dark brown.
