- Strongly branching, up to 2 m long. Segments pendant, up to 90 cm long, 5 mm diameter. Areoles 6 mm apart, with felt. Bristles only after the areole has flowered for the first time, then 2, up to 2 mm long. Flower lateral, protruding through the epidermis, up to 9 mm long, white to reddish. Petals longer than ovary. Fruit white, pink or light red, 3-5x2.5-4 mm diameter. Seed 1 mm.

- Brazil: Pernambuco, Sergipe, Bahia, Minas Gerais, Espírito Santo, Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo, mostly not over 150 km from the sea, but in Bahia on east facing flanks of Chapada Diamantina, Serra da Jacobina and Serra do Espinhaço. Up to 1000 m. Flowering period July to October.
