- Initially upright, later pendant, profusely branching. Stems cylindric, up to 50 cm long, 3-5 mm diameter, terminal stems in whorls with 5-12. Areoles with felt and 1-2 dark small spines. Flower lateral, up to 1.2 cm diameter, with 1-2 bristly spines, light yellow. Pericarpel shorter than perianth. Stamens and style white. Petals becoming yellow after anthesis. Fruit 4-5 mm, white. Seed small.

- Brazil: mountain forests of São Paulo, between Tijuca and Jacarepagua (Rio de Janeiro), Minas Gerais, Paraná, Santa Catarina, Rio Grande do Sul, up to 1000 m. flowering period June to September. Flowering time February to October
