- Robust, initially upright, rijk vertakt, stems in whorls of 5-7, cylindric, dull green, 3-10 cm long, 3-5 mm diameter. Scales small, white, with red edges. 3-5 bristly spines, very small, white. Flower 1.8-2 cm diameter, white to yellow. Stamens white above, via pink to yellow-red beneath. Pistil yellowish white. Fruit red. Seed 2 mm, kidney-shaped, smooth, black.

- Brazil: Bahia, Rio de Janeiro (Petrópolis, T: Tijuca mt.), São Paulo, Paraná, Santa Catarina. Epiphytic and terrestric in Mata Atlântica, up to 1000 m. Flowering period May to June.
