- Upright, later pendant, up to ±1 m long. Primairy stem oblong, spindle-shaped, mostly three-angled. Secundary stems oval, elliptic to round, coarsely crenated, dark green, with red tinge, 8-20 cm long, 5-12 cm broad, with prominent midribs. Areoles with small scales and very little felt. Flower yellow, 1.5 cm long, 2-2.5 cm diameter. Stamens translucent white, anthers yellow-white. Pistil white. Ovary round to short cylindric, green, naked. Fruit white to red, adpressed to globose.

- Brazil: Rio Grande do Sul to Rio de Janeiro, in mountain forest up to Serra da Cantareira in São Paulo, Paraná, up to 1500 m. Flowering period February to August.
