- On rocks up to 80 cm long, terrestric up to 2 m long. Stems flat, 15 cm long, 5-cm broad, lower part wedge-shaped, strongly crenated, dark green, sometimes with purple edges. Flower cream, up to 7 mm long, sometimes nine flowers in each areole. Stamens few, very short. Fruit red to purple, 5-6 mm diameter.
- Brazil: Bahia (Chapada Diamantina, Serra do Espinhaço, T: Toca da Onça), Minas Gerais, Espírito Santo, Goiás, Mato Grosso, Mato Grosso do Sul, Paraná; Eastern Paraguay. In rather dry areas, such as brejo, campo rupestre and caatinga, up to 1000 m.
